Baie du Doré. I finally got to try out the neutr

Baie du Doré.
I finally got to try out the neutral density filter on my drone over Lake Huron with delightful results (and there were so many eagles 🦅!).
The water was really low and there was a lot of magic at the intersection of the land with the water surface (which was almost invisible!).

Droning conditions are aleatory, and it’s always a rush when the wind and light is perfect when you get to where you want to fly.

It’s going to be a (mostly) glorious long weekend to explore the Arboretum and experience the sound walk How to Draw a Tree - a site specific personal narrative on trees, mental health, and creativity by artist Dawn Matheson (supported by me!)

The Redbuds (pic 2 yesterday), American Witch-Hazel, Hawthorn, Barberry, Korean Spice Viburnum, plums, marsh marigolds, trilliums and more are right now in what I consider peak bloom.

My drone photography of Guelph Lake has been included in the gorgeous Another Earth artist book What Makes a Lake? Tracing Movement.

The publication brings together the work of 80 artists to create a portrait of Earth’s lakes, rivers, and oceans with the intention to prompt a new connection to and commitment for caring for our most vulnerable ecosystems.

🌀 The first edition is now available for pre-order from @__anotherearth__ with more preview pages on their website.

I don’t know how much longer either have left, the house is now collapsing and the tree is rotten through.

McCormick’s Candy Factory sometime in 2019. It was all the wrong light and so grey at the end of the day, but we make do with the weather when urban exploring, as there (usually) isn’t a second chance to take more photos.

I love kozuke paper but the light weight is not appropriate for recoating,it stretches and and shredded at the surface.

I wanted to try making two-toned cyanotypes and as I’ve been experimenting making cyanotypes inspired by the 🌑moon🌕, more celestial objects made sense.

The kozuke (light) paper stretched a bit when I coated it a second time and the registration is misaligned and reveals the true tone of the paper.

Light-sensitive ferric ammonium citrate when combined with potassium ferricyanide creates the ferric salts reduced (with UV light) in a final cyanotype print.

The cyanotype process was developed around 1842 by Sir John Herschel, in his pursuit of making photographs *with* colour.

This is a photograph of an abandoned hospital, but it’s really/also a record of the pink glow in a room slowly eroding.

St. Joseph's Hospital in Parry Sound, was built in 1950 and closed in 2005 and has since been left to the elements. It was a satellite location of the West Parry Sound Health Centre for the chronically ill / elderly care patients.

Inside the Atlantis Pavilion at Ontario Place. Opened in 1971, the Pavilion comprises five mast-hung, steel and aluminum pods that are suspended over the water of Lake Ontario and connected by walkways. They were originally used to host an exhibit about Ontario, but over time became an ever evolving entertainment complex (rotating dance floor, nightclub, restaurant...) boasting panoramic views of Toronto and Lake Ontario. Designed by Craig Zeidler Strong Architects, the
Pavilions won a Canadian Architect Award Excellence in 1969. Atlantis closed in 2016 (four years after the amusement park) and is now considered a building at risk due to the controversial plan to turn the public retreat for Ontarians into a private Therme Spa.

888 Dupont at the Northeast corner of Dupont and Ossington was an
infamous/iconic affordable live/work studio building for artists in Toronto until 2021 when all the tenants were unceremoniously evicted (condos).

Designed in 1921, it began as a yarn-spinning firm and at one point even housed the CNIB broom, brush and mop making facilities (employing blind veterans).

At the end of 2021 I had the chance to explore 888 and revisit the former studios of friends/family who have lived and worked there over the years.

This unit in particular I had actually tried to rent - but it instead become home to friends I had yet to meet who would dream up art magic for the city, all within these walls.
