I can’t believe it has been 10 years since Hurricane Katrina.
In 2009 I volunteered with Rebuilding Together New Orleans. It was really a voluntourism experience. Over a long weekend I re-framed windows, ate MRE’s (because there was nowhere to buy food near the house we were rebuilding), had a close encounter with a deft handed pick-pocket in the French Quarter (sorry about your luck thief!), toured the still devastated neighborhoods of Broadmoor and the Ninth Ward, saw my first Banksy and met some incredible people living in New Orleans.
